Why My Kids Go To Music Makers

I started bringing my oldest son to Music Makers when he was just six months old. Even though he wasn’t old enough to sing or play the ukelele, I immediately saw value in his experience in these music classes. Slowly he began to participate; he started to shake his egg shaker, bop along to the music, and clap at the end of each song.

My son is almost three now, consistently attending Music Makers for the past two years, and the growth I have seen is immeasurable. First, without question, his knowledge of music has increased. He knows the names of a variety of instruments, understands how to play them, and has a repertoire of dozens of songs memorized. Second, his passion for music has grown. He is giddy with excitement when we pull into the parking lot for music class. He lights up when they play “Hop Little Bunny” and “Tiny Tim”, and he jumps up so fast to play a round of “Freeze Dance”. And finally, his confidence as a young person has grown immensely. He has had the opportunity to learn about new things, explore friendships with the other kids, and step out of his comfort zone in a safe space. He is now confident enough to shout out answers and volunteer ideas within the class, and to sing and play along proudly to each song. I have another son who is fourteen months old now, who I’ve been bringing him to Music Makers since he was born, and I’ve already started seeing the same benefits for him as a participant.

I am so grateful for all that Music Makers has done for my sons, and on top of that, for all that this program has given to my family. My husband and I have been able to make countless memories with our kids- singing, dancing, and giggling with them and sharing in their joy. Music Makers has been such a positive experience for my family, and we plan to continue attending these classes for as long as they are offered.
