Introducing: Briana Horton

The team at the Local Sound Collaborative is growing! So excited to bring on a new Music Education Facilitator: Briana Horton! She is an incredible talent in our music community, but also brings with her a wealth of experience in working with children and childcare sites in Rochester. When you watch her work and perform with the kids, you can immediately tell how effortless her passion and energy is. She will be running music maker sessions and hopefully more! Words can hardly describe the excitement I feel at the opportunity to officially be a part of the Local Sound Collaborative’s team. Being a music facilitator means getting to play music to and with kiddos, and is something I look forward to every single week. On the days I get to do these sessions, my cup is overflowing with gratitude and joy. As a former preschool teacher who absolutely fell in love with early childhood education and creating a safe space for children, I’m so happy I get to continue working with this age group. And as a musician and artist, to be able to do it in a way that also incorporates music is truly a dream come true!

Kids at these ages are so responsive to melodies, rhythms and movements and it is such a blessing to be able to inspire them to participate and interact with different songs during our sessions. Music is crucial to a child’s development–but also, to watch them open up and form positive memories this way and smile and laugh along with the silliness is just priceless! Playing even a small role in their development and joy is such an indescribable feeling. 

I have always believed in the Local Sound Collaborative’s goals and the team of people working to make it all happen. It is an honor to be joining such a strong, inspiring and hardworking group of humans. I am thoroughly impressed with all that we’ve been able to accomplish already in the last few years, and am constantly excited for the future and what will come next–for both the Local Sound, and for the communities we will continue to impact.
